MEET RAY KING!

Ray King (nee Glasser) has been involved in radio since age 12, in 1960.  That Spring, Ray and some his friends went on the radio on a small 50-watt AM station in Mayfield Hts., Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.  The station was called WMFH (for Mayfield Heights), and was at the bottom of the AM dial at 540 kh.  The boys played rock and roll/Top 40 music, and they were on the air from April until late August of 1960.  That was Ray's first exposure to radio and Top 40 music, and both have been in his blood since then!
Fast forward 10 years to 1970.  Ray was majoring in TV and Radio at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and was working at a small radio laboratory in Derby Hall, engineering radio projects for students who were taking radio history and production classes.  Over the next 2 years, Ray was jocking at 3 various closed-circuit stations at Ohio State, playing oldies, and had very high-rated shows.  This all ended when Ray joined the US Air Force in April, 1972.

Fast forward to 2005, when Ray published a website called WIXY1260.com, which showcased WIXY1260, the incredible Top 40 AM station that became a huge part of the Cleveland radio landscape from 1965 to 1976.
Now it's 2011, when Ray was contacted by a WIXY fan in Lakewood, Ohio, who wanted to create an internet station using WIXY jingles and playing the same music that WIXY played "back in the day."  Ray teamed up with Gary Schmitz, and within a month, WIXY1260Online was born! Originally the station was just broadcasting music and jingles and was totally automated.  About a year later, Ray asked Gary if there was any way he could do a live show on the station, and Gary made it happen! From those humble beginnings, WIXY1260Online has grown from a modest staff of two to 25, and has done remote broadcasts in the Cleveland area, including major events like the yearly Piston-Powered AutoRama show at the Cleveland I-X center.

Then, in 2016, Ray was approached by Jumpin' Joe Madigan, who was running a show on John Carroll University's college station, WJCU, called Retro Radio, which showcased 4 iconic radio stations (Cleveland's WHK, WIXY, WKYC, and the Detroit/Windsor powerhouse CKLW), using the stations' jingles and playing music of the 60s.  Retro Radio began in 2004, and in 2016 Joe asked Ray if he could be a bi-weekly substitute host, since Joe's family was growing larger and his time was becoming limited.  Ray of course obliged, and in 2020 took over Retro Radio full-time, as Joe began producing a show from home, called Jumpin' Joe's Basement Show.

Ray is continuing his shows on WIXY1260Online, Thursday afternoons from 2 to 6.  And he's also still on WJCU, doing two shows: in 2022 Ray retired the Retro Radio Show, and replaced it with the award-winning Rockin' Ray's Record Recall, spinning the hits - and the forgotten hits - of the 1950s thru the 1980s, Saturday afternoons from 3 to 5 PM Eastern. Ray also does a one-hour show called the Ray King Variety Show, featuring a different theme every week, from 8 to 9 AM on Saturdays!  Tune in!
